DESERT SUN, PRIVATE VOWS, & A CHAMPAGNE TOWER | DESERT HORIZONS GOLF CLUB WEDDING IN INDIAN WELLS

There’s something about desert weddings that just hits differently. The light is warmer, the colors feel richer, and every moment somehow feels drenched in this cinematic golden glow that you truly can’t recreate anywhere else.
As a wedding photographer local to the Coachella Valley and Palm Desert area, I’ll never get tired of photographing weddings in the desert. The scenery, the palms, the sun, the energy. It always feels effortlessly editorial while still staying grounded and personal.
C+K’s wedding at Desert Horizons Golf Club was exactly that kind of day.
Elegant but playful. Emotional but relaxed. Stylish without trying too hard.
And as it turns out, this wedding was especially meaningful because it was the very first wedding the venue had ever hosted.
No pressure, right?
But honestly, the team at Desert Horizons absolutely delivered. Every member of the staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely excited for C+K throughout the entire day. Being part of the first wedding hosted at this Indian Wells wedding venue felt incredibly special as both a photographer and storyteller. There was this feeling throughout the day that everyone knew they were creating something memorable together.
The day started with detail photos, and immediately I knew this wedding was going to be visually fun. Instead of hanging the dress somewhere predictable, we used made this chandelier moment that instantly elevated the photos into something more editorial and fashion-inspired. I’m always looking for ways to make detail shots feel intentional and unique to the couple rather than repetitive, and this setup photographed beautifully against the warm desert interiors.
Then came one of my favorite portrait setups of the entire day.
The bride posed between these massive King and Queen playing card posters, and it was such a cool, unexpected visual moment. It had this modern Vegas-meets-editorial vibe while still feeling sophisticated and stylish. The symmetry, the scale, the drama. Everything about it worked.
And honestly? C absolutely carried every portrait effortlessly.
One thing that made C’s entire wedding day so memorable to photograph was how genuinely excited she was from start to finish. During the getting ready portion of the day, every few minutes she would suddenly burst out, “I’M GETTING MARRIED!!!!” with the biggest smile on her face, and honestly, it was adorable every single time. That kind of unrestrained joy is infectious in the best way possible. It completely shifted the energy in the room and made every photo feel alive and spontaneous. There was this constant sense that she was fully present for every second of the day, and as a photographer, that kind of energy is truly the dream to document.

Later during portraits, we photographed her in front of this incredibly cool geometric wall that immediately caught my eye when I arrived. I’m constantly scanning venues for textures, architecture, and unexpected backdrops that can transform portraits into something that feels elevated and fashion-forward. This wall had the perfect modern desert aesthetic, and paired with C’s energy, it became portrait magic.
And considering the bride was a former pageant queen… yeah. She absolutely slayed her portraits. No notes.
Every pose looked effortless. Every movement photographed beautifully. She knew exactly how to bring elegance while still staying natural and relaxed in front of the camera, which made creating editorial-style bridal portraits feel incredibly seamless. But what I loved most was that despite how polished and stunning everything looked, she never took herself too seriously. She brought this fun, excited energy into every part of the day that made the entire wedding feel vibrant and full of life.

We also stayed there for bridesmaid portraits because honestly, I could not get enough of that backdrop. The tones, the lines, the styling. Everything came together perfectly.
One of the sweetest moments of the day happened shortly after during the bride’s first look with her dad.
It was emotional in the quietest, most genuine way. The kind of moment where nobody’s trying to perform for the camera. Just pure love and pride and a realization that the day is finally here. I always intentionally build enough room into wedding timelines for moments like these because they deserve space to actually happen naturally. Some of the most meaningful photographs from a wedding day come from the in-between moments when people are simply allowed to feel everything.
And speaking of emotional moments, C+K’s private vows out on the golf course were easily one of the most memorable parts of the day.
If you’ve never heard of private vows before, it’s essentially when a couple chooses to read personal vows to each other privately before the ceremony rather than in front of all their guests. And honestly, I love when couples choose to do this.
It gives them this rare opportunity during an otherwise busy wedding day to slow down and actually connect with each other without distraction. No audience. No pressure. Just the two of them standing together in the middle of this huge life moment.
As a photographer, one of the most meaningful contributions I can make during moments like these is knowing when to step back.
Instead of over-directing or interrupting emotional moments for the sake of photos, I like to let private vows breathe naturally. Giving couples space allows real emotion to unfold authentically, and those are almost always the images that end up meaning the most years later. C+K were both incredibly emotional during their vows, and you could feel how excited they became afterward. It transformed the energy of the day in the best possible way.
Their ceremony took place out on the golf course overlooking the pond, surrounded by lush greenery and glowing desert light. But what really made this ceremony setup unforgettable was the aisle design.
Instead of a traditional aisle, the wedding party crossed over this dramatic bridge leading toward the ceremony space, which created such a cinematic experience from every angle. As a photographer, unique ceremony layouts like this are always exciting because they naturally create more depth, movement, and storytelling opportunities throughout the ceremony coverage.
And C walking down that bridge with her dad? So sweet. So joyful. They were laughing together one second and emotional the next, which made the entire entrance feel incredibly genuine and full of life.

Also, her dress.
The back of the dress photographed like an absolute dream. The movement, the structure, the veil. Every angle during the ceremony looked stunning.
And C carried that joyful energy through the ceremony, cheering, "I'm getting married!!" just before their first kiss.
After the ceremony, we moved right into romantic portraits around the course, and somehow the desert light just kept getting better and better.

My favorite shot of the day? Yeah it's this incredible dip kiss in front of the pond paired with a perfectly timed veil toss, and honestly, it felt like a movie still. This is exactly why I will forever love a veil.
Veils create movement, softness, drama, and just enough chaos in the best way possible. They bring photos to life.
From there, we wandered around the golf course documenting the two of them together surrounded by the greenery, flowers, palm trees, and warm Indian Wells sunset light.
One of my favorite things about desert wedding venues like Desert Horizons Golf Club is how beautifully the lush landscaping contrasts against the desert atmosphere. It creates this balance of softness and vibrancy that photographs so beautifully, especially for couples wanting that elevated Southern California wedding aesthetic.
And then came the reception.
Which included one of my favorite wedding details ever: a champagne tower.
I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever get tired of photographing champagne towers. They’re interactive, glamorous, chaotic in the best way, and they instantly bring this celebratory energy into a reception.
C especially was having the best time during it, which made the photos even more fun. Her excitement from the morning carried all the way into the reception, and it completely transformed the atmosphere of the night.
She brought so much joyful energy onto the dance floor, the speeches, and into every interaction with guests, which made the entire reception feel incredibly lively, emotional, and fun to photograph.
The parent dances were another especially sweet part of the evening. There was such a tenderness to those moments that balanced perfectly with all the excitement throughout the day. Watching both families soak everything in felt incredibly emotional, and those quieter moments in the middle of the celebration always end up becoming some of the most meaningful images in a wedding gallery.
The rest of the evening unfolded exactly the way the best weddings do: fun, emotional, joyful, and completely true to the couple.
C+K’s wedding at Desert Horizons Golf Club was such a beautiful reminder of why I love photographing weddings in the Coachella Valley and Southern California. The desert has this incredible ability to make weddings feel simultaneously luxurious and deeply personal. Add in intentional design, emotional moments, and a couple fully present with each other, and it becomes the kind of wedding day that feels unforgettable to document.

If you’re planning a wedding at Desert Horizons Golf Club, in Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, or anywhere in Southern California and are looking for a photographer who blends editorial imagery with authentic storytelling, I would absolutely love to connect. These are the kinds of wedding days I live for.
