There’s something about a wedding at La Venta Inn that immediately feels cinematic. Maybe it’s the historic Spanish-style architecture, the sweeping coastal overlook, or the way every corner of the property somehow gives you an entirely different backdrop. It’s one of those Southern California wedding venues that feels timeless without trying too hard.
Elegant, coastal, romantic, and endlessly photogenic from literally every angle.
For couples searching for a Palos Verdes wedding venue that gives you ocean views and lush garden spaces and iconic architecture, La Venta really is the full package. And for wedding photography? It’s an absolute dream.
T+D’s wedding day perfectly captured everything that makes a La Venta Inn wedding so special. The day had this effortless balance of elevated editorial moments and genuinely fun energy. Nothing felt overly posed or stiff. Every part of the day unfolded naturally, while still creating space for intentional, artistic portraits that felt unique to them and to the venue itself.
The morning started with detail photos and getting ready moments with T, and immediately the tone for the day was set. Her wedding dress hanging in the window with the sunlight pouring through behind it was one of those shots that stops you in your tracks. Soft light, historic textures, coastal air flowing through the room… it felt romantic in the most natural way. These are always some of my favorite images to create because they instantly anchor the story of the day and showcase the atmosphere of the venue before the wedding even begins.
From there, we leaned fully into the character of the space for bridal portraits. One of my favorite sequences from the day was photographing T peeking out through the historic windows of the inn. The energy was playful and elegant at the same time, almost like a modern editorial twist on old Hollywood coastal romance. These are the kinds of moments I’m always looking for as a photographer: opportunities to use the venue itself as part of the storytelling rather than simply as a backdrop.
That approach carried throughout the entire wedding day. At one point, I created a portrait of D reflected through a window, layering architecture, reflection, and emotion together into one frame. I love finding these kinds of perspectives because they create imagery that feels intentional and unique to the environment around you. Anyone can stand in front of a pretty ocean view and take a photo. What makes a gallery feel elevated and personal is using the textures, light, architecture, and personality of the space to create something a little more unexpected.
And honestly, La Venta Inn gives endless opportunities for that.
One of the most emotional moments of the day was T+D’s first look overlooking the ocean. If you’re planning a coastal wedding in Southern California, La Venta is genuinely perfect for first looks. The view never misses.
The cliffs, the water, the breeze coming off the coast… it creates this incredibly cinematic atmosphere while still feeling intimate and calm. You get the emotional impact of the moment while also having one of the best natural backdrops in Palos Verdes.
After the first look, we moved into couple portraits and absolutely embraced the coastal weather. It was a little windy, which honestly ended up being perfect. The veil movement gave everything that effortless windswept feeling that photographs so beautifully on the coast. Instead of fighting the elements, we leaned into them completely, capturing movement, texture, and that bright blue Southern California sky overhead.
The under-the-veil portraits from this part of the day are some of my favorites from the entire gallery. Romantic, editorial, intimate, but still authentic to the energy of the day.
We also made full use of the iconic staircase that La Venta Inn is known for, creating architectural portraits with D leading T up the stairs that felt straight out of a classic film. Then we returned to the windows for some playful “Romeo and Juliet” inspired portraits with T leaning out from above while D stood below looking up at her.
These kinds of images are honestly one of my favorite parts of wedding photography. I love finding little opportunities throughout the day to create something unexpected based on the actual space we’re in. A huge part of my approach is guiding couples into movement and interactions that feel natural while still creating imagery that feels artistic and elevated. Sometimes the best photos happen simply because we noticed a beautiful window, a staircase, or interesting light and decided to create something around it.
That blend of documentary emotion and editorial creativity is what makes a gallery feel fully alive.
The wedding party photos carried that same fun energy.
One of my favorite bridal party shots was photographing the bridesmaids carrying T’s dress train behind her as they walked together. I love incorporating movement into wedding party portraits whenever possible because it instantly makes the images feel more dynamic and interactive. Plus, it lets the dress fully shine while involving everyone in the shot naturally rather than having everyone stand stiffly in place.
Then it was time for the ceremony, held outside overlooking the coastline.
The ceremony location at La Venta Inn is truly one of the best parts of the venue. The ocean beyond the ceremony space gives everything that unmistakable Southern California coastal atmosphere while still feeling warm and intimate instead of overly large or formal.
One detail I especially loved was that T+D actually practiced their aisle dip before the ceremony began. And honestly? It made such a difference. Even if couples rehearse a dip beforehand, I always recommend trying it once within the actual ceremony setup because every aisle is different. Some are narrower, shorter, or angled differently, and La Venta’s ceremony space definitely has a more intimate aisle layout. Because they practiced within the space itself, they absolutely nailed the timing, spacing, and positioning for the perfect dip photo after the ceremony.
And yes. The shot was worth it.

After the ceremony, we wandered through the gardens for romantic portraits surrounded by greenery and flowers. This is another reason why I love photographing weddings at La Venta Inn so much. You get the dramatic oceanfront setting, but you also get these lush garden spaces that completely transform the feel of the gallery. It gives couples so much variety within one location, which allows the final wedding gallery to feel layered, dynamic, and intentional.
One moment you’re framed against the Pacific Ocean, and the next you’re surrounded by greenery beneath historic architecture. It’s such a versatile venue for storytelling.
As the evening transitioned into the reception, the entire property took on this warm romantic glow. The Spanish-inspired detailing throughout the venue makes receptions here feel especially intimate and atmospheric once the light starts to soften. Candles flickering, ocean air moving through the courtyard, guests celebrating beneath the historic architecture… it all felt effortlessly romantic in that classic Southern California way.
And then came the sunset.

And when I say the sunset SHOWED UP for this wedding day, I mean it.
Sometimes you get a pretty sunset. And sometimes the sky fully commits to the moment.
We snuck away from the reception for a few final portraits overlooking the ocean just as the sky exploded into color. The combination of the cliffs, the coastline, the movement from the veil, and the soft sunset light created some of the most magical images of the entire day. These portraits felt wild and cinematic and emotional all at once. The kind of photos that perfectly close out a wedding gallery.
Sometimes the sunset is just perfect. And on this wedding day, it absolutely was.

For couples planning a Palos Verdes wedding, a La Venta Inn wedding, or a coastal Southern California wedding, T+D’s day was the perfect reminder that the best galleries come from embracing the atmosphere of the location, leaning into genuine moments, and allowing space for creativity throughout the day. From historic windows and architectural portraits to oceanfront first looks and windswept sunset photos, every part of this wedding felt deeply connected to the setting around it, which made the entire gallery feel immersive, romantic, and completely unique to them.
