What is a First Look? And should you consider having a First Look at your wedding?

It's becoming more common to have First Looks at weddings, and for good reason! This is a special, intimate moment where you and your partner see each other for the first time, before the ceremony. Wedding days can be so busy, but a First Look offers you as a couple a chance to share a special private experience with each other. It always results in stunning photos full of emotion. So, why should you have a First Look? Here are some reasons!

Emotional Intimacy: A first look allows you as a couple to share an intimate and private moment together, before the ceremony. It can be a deeply emotional and meaningful experience as they take in the significance of the day together. It allows you to create a unique and memorable experience that reflects your relationship.

Reduced Nerves: Seeing each other before the ceremony can help alleviate nerves and anxiety. Sharing a quiet moment together can be calming and reassuring, helping you both feel more relaxed and present during the ceremony.

Extended Photography Time: You get more amazing pictures! Having a first look allows for more time for wedding photography. We can take advantage of the natural light and capture additional photos before the ceremony, in different locations ensuring a wide variety of couple portraits.

Privacy and Intimacy: You get more quality time with each other on your special day! A first look provides a private moment for you to express your feelings for each other without the distractions and eyes of the wedding guests. It's a moment just for you to connect before the whirlwind of your wedding day.

Efficiency & Logistics: Having a first look can help streamline the wedding day timeline. By taking photos beforehand, you can join your guests for the celebration more quickly after the ceremony concludes. In some cases, the venue or schedule may make it more practical to have a first look. This can be especially true for weddings with evening ceremonies or when there are constraints on the available daylight or photo locations.

Not yet convinced a First Look is right for you? If you want to save the surprise reveal for the ceremony but still want to share a special, private moment with your partner beforehand, consider having a First Touch and private vow reading instead!

This variation of the traditional First Look is designed to maintain an element of surprise for the ceremony while still allowing you to share a private and intimate moment together.

During a first touch, you may choose to stand on opposite sides of a door, a wall, or any barrier that prevents you from seeing each other. You can then hold hands, exchange messages, or simply share a few moments together without the visual reveal.

I love photographing First Looks and First Touches. It's a personal choice and depends on you and your partner's preferences for your special day. Think about if it's right for you!
